Stantec is housed in a beautifully restored building that has had many lives before the one it has now. Completed in 1895, the building was originally the J. Seidenberg & Co. cigar factory. The building operated as a cigar factory until the 1930s, when it served as a sewing factory as part of the New Deal’s Works Progress Administration. It regained its association with cigars from the 1950s through the 1980s as a storage space for the Hav-a-Tampa Cigar Company. From 1994 through 2004, the building was the production facility for the Ybor City Brewing Company. In 2006, WilsonMiller (renamed Stantec), completely renovated the building to make it their Tampa office. The building demonstrates many features found in late 19th-century cigar factories. The solid brick construction made them more resistant to the threat of fire. The large number of windows allowed plenty of ventilation and sunlight for the workers to practice their craft. The east-west orientation of the building ensured even lighting all day and cut down on shadows on the work floors.
